Neutrophil Normal Range: Please note that the normal range for neutrophil counts has changed to 2.0 - 7.5 x10^9/l. This applies to results generated from Heartlands and Solihull sites. The normal range at Good Hope remains unchanged at 1.9 - 9.0 x10^9/l.
The laboratory provides a comprehensive consultant-led service providing both diagnostic and clinical advice 24h/day. The laboratory provides services to GP's by direct access and to Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals. There are close links with the Clinical Haematology service.
The laboratory at Heartlands is open routinely from 08:00 - 22:00 hrs Monday - Friday and 08:00 -13.00 hrs on Saturday and Sunday. It is housed within the Laboratory Medicine building which is located close to the Yardley Green Road entrance.
The laboratory at Good Hope is open routinely from 08:00 - 17:30 hrs Monday - Friday and 08:00 -12.00 hrs on Saturday and Sunday. It is housed within the Laboratory Medicine building which is located opposite to the main car park.
The laboratory at Solihull is open from 08:30 - 17:30 hrs Monday - Friday. Solihull samples will be transported to Heartlands over night and weekends. The Laboratory is located within the building housing the Renal Unit, on the first floor.
During these times a comprehensive diagnostic services is available. Consultant advice is available via the laboratory or the Heartlands switchboard. At all other times an emergency out of hours service covering Heartlands and Solihull is available from the Heartlands laboratory via bleep 2449 or switchboard. Emergency on-call service covering the Good Hope site is available via bleep 8779 or switchboard (0121 424 2000).
Inpatient referrals are by telephone to the haematology doctor on - call or in writing to a haematology consultant.
Haematology clinics are held on all 3 sites of the trust and at the community hospitals in Lichfield and Tamworth. The larger clinics held at Heartlands and Good Hope have samples processed through a point of care analyser located on the unit.
