General Information

The EntericBio® assay is a semi-automated, molecular diagnostic test for direct, qualitative detection of nucleic acids for

  • Virology: Rotavirus A, Adenovirus F40/F41, Sapovirus, Astrovirus and Norovirus (Genogroup I and Genogroup II)
  • Bacteriology: Salmonella enterica spp., Shigella spp., Campylobacter jejuni/coli/lari, Yersinia enterocolitica spp., Vibrio cholerae/parahaemolyticus, Shiga-like toxin-producing E. coli (STEC, also known as Vero toxin producing E. coli, VTEC) stx1/stx2, Cryptosporidium parvum/ hominis, Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica in human stool samples
  • C. difficile

Patient Preparation

This assay is intended for use with liquid or loose stool specimens collected from symptomatic patients presenting with suspected acute gastroenteritis. To support accurate interpretation and diagnosis, relevant clinical information should be provided on the request form, including the patient's travel history, immunocompromised status, recent antibiotic use, and any known outbreak settings or high-risk environments (e.g. care homes or hospitals). EntericBio does not detect Enterovirus or Adenovirus; please request these tests separately if required. For immunocompromised patients and symptoms of flaccid paralysis these are tested for both Enterovirus or Adenovirus

Notes

Vomit no longer tested for Norovirus
